Dredge and the dams could stay

Letter to editor of Herald and News by Harvey Houston, 6/16/08

There is a perfect machine to solve the Klamath Lake water problem.

By removing the topsoil and manure that has washed into the lake from ranches along the river, they are very rich in nutrients and could be sold to farmers to help pay for a project.

By dredging to great depth, the acre feet could be greatly increased and therefore the dams would not have to be removed or give away any property.

This could increase water or the farmers' irrigation and remove algae and areas of the lake and fill low areas along the banks.

Editor's note: the writer is referring to the floating dredge "Megan-Renee" that can move 12 cubic yards of material at a time and is stationed at Tongue Point at Astoria.
