 Robert Roy Stern

     Robert Roy Stern, 84, died in Reno, Nev., April 9, 2013.

   A service of tribute and love will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eternal Hills Chapel, with Ernie Mathes officiating. A reception will follow the service and cremation will be at Eternal Hills Crematory. Friends may call for visitation at Eternal Hills from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 am to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

   Robert was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Payette, Idaho, to Robert and Louise E. Howard Stern.   The family came to Klamath Falls, where he graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1948. He then entered the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1948 to 1952.

   He met Donna Johnson and they were married in Carson City,   Nev., May 29, 1955. He worked for Macy’s Flying Service as an airplane mechanic for more than 25 years. He also received an award from the FAA for 50 years of service as an A&P mechanic.

   He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. He was a member of the Alturas Gun Club. He also enjoyed scuba diving and was a member of the Klamath County Dive Rescue team from 1980 to 1995. He was most proud of his accomplishment being the crew chief of the SIXCAT Race plane, which if it wins this year will set the record for most wins at the Reno National   Air Races. He rebuilt that plane from an AT–6 crop duster into the race plane for Macy’s.

   He is survived by his daughters and   sons-in-law Kathy and Jerry Terrell of Indiana; Karen Stern of Mt. Shasta, Calif.; Joe Frost of Klamath Falls, Ore.; grandchildren Kara Curtis; Tim Frost and Dan Frost and four great-grandchildren.

   He was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 2011 and his daughter Karla Frost in 2001.

   Eternal Hills Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
