Concerning the development of an amendment to the Regional Water Quality Control Plan of the North Coast Region to protect stream and wetland systems

The Regional Water Quality Control Board, North Coast Region (Regional Water Board) will hold three public meetings concerning development and adoption of an amendment to the Water Quality Control Plan of the North Coast Region (Basin Plan) to protect stream and wetland systems, which include stream channels, wetlands, riparian areas, and floodplains. The amendment may include methodology to identify and assess the conditions of these systems and establish requirements to protect their associated beneficial uses. The public meetings, in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), will allow interested parties to provide comments on the scope of potential environmental impacts from development and implementation of the amendment. Regional Water Board staff will present an overview of the scientific and technical principles underlying the amendment and will discuss potential elements of the amendment that are being considered, including new water quality standards and an implementation plan to achieve these standards. These meetings are in addition to CEQA scoping meetings held in Eureka, Yreka, and Santa Rosa in May. Members of the public and interested parties will be provided the opportunity to present oral and/or written comments on all aspects of the amendment, including implementation planning. All comments will be included in the final administrative record.
