Hearing scheduled for Oregon gun-control bills

March 29, 2013 Herald and News

SALEM (AP) — An Oregon legislator has scheduled a committee hearing next week on several gun-control measures.

Gun-control advocates have given up on contentious efforts to limit sales of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, but they're pressing ahead with other measures.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Democratic Sen. Floyd Prozanski of Eugene, will consider four bills next Friday. They would strengthen background check requirements, beef-up restrictions on guns in schools and public buildings, and require more training to obtain a concealed handgun license.

The committee will hear public testimony and could vote to advance the measures to the full Senate.
