The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office has issued a six hour notification for immediate evacuation, which remains in effect as of Wednesday August 29. This notice includes closure of Seiad Creek Road and Seiad Oak Road and possibly additional roads depending on fire behavior. An evacuation center will be established Siskyou Golden Fair Grounds in 1172 Fairlane Road, Yreka Ca. The evacuation center will have the capability to house large and small animals as well.

The Goff Fire as of 6:00 PM August 29 is estimated at 16,224 acres and 16 percent contained. Management of the Goff Fire is being handled by a National Incident Management Organization or NIMO Team. There is a current closure of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) from Highway 96 to Lily Pad Lake. Please visit the Klamath National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/klamath for complete closure information. Keep checking back here for Goff Fire information updates. Command of the Hello, Lick and Fruit Fires has been transferred back to the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. No additional updates on the Hello, Lick or Fruit Fires are expected unless conditions change. The total acreage of the four fires that are within the Fort Complex is 17,607 acres (Goff Fire - 16,224 acres; Hello Fire - 977 acres; Lick Fire - 403 acres; Fruit - 3 acres which has been contained). The overall containment of the Fort Complex is 25 percent.

A lightning storm that moved through the Northern California and Southern Oregon area on August 5th, 2012, started multiple fires on the Klamath National Forest and the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Firefighters from both forests quickly contained many of the fires over several days. However the Hello, Lick, and Goff Fires are located in steep and rugged terrain. The Hello Fire in the Red Buttes Wilderness and the Lick Fire, about five miles east of the Red Buttes Wilderness, are in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Together with the Goff Fire, which is on both the Klamath National Forest and the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest are being managed as the Fort Complex.

A 12 hour Evacuation Notice remains in effect since the fire has not reached the 6 hour mark for evacuation. The purpose of the 12 hour notice issued by the Siskiyou County Sheriff Department is to inform residents the Goff fire is getting closer and there is a chance they may have to evacuate their residence due to threat of the fire activity.

The initial 24 Pre-evacuation Notice was announced Sunday, August 26, 2012 at a 6:00 p.m. during a public meeting at Seiad Valley Fire Hall. The public meeting included updates by fire managers and Siskiyou County officials on fire management strategy, fire behavior, weather, as well as questions and answers on the pre-evacuation notice.

The Goff Fire is now 11,712 acres and 15 percent contained. Management of the Goff Fire is being handled by a National Incident Management Organization or NIMO Team. Fire Behavior The GOFF FIRE is currently at 12,500 acres and 15 percent contained. It continues to be a backing fire accelerated by rollout of down logs and uphill runs .
Significant Events Fire continues to approach Seiad Valley. Wind from the southwest has pushed the eastern edge of the fire to the northeast and slowed the backing progression of the fire toward Seiad Creek Road and the homes along the road. The 12 hour pre-evacuation notice is still in effect because the fire has not reached the 6 hour mark. Residents should continue preparations for possible evacuation. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed from Highway 96 to Lily Pad Lake. The National Boundary Trail is also closed. Smoke impacts will vary depending on wind direction and other fires.

SISKIYOU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

**8/27/2012 9:00am**

         The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a Pre-evacuation Notice to the residents of Seiad Valley, California due to the threat of the Goff Fire.   At this Pre-Evacuation notice stage the wildfire is estimated to be 12 hours away from potential threat to private property.  Residents are urged to take precautionary preparations. Sheriff’s Deputies along with Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue and Sheriffs Posse will be going door to door to notify residents that the threat is approximately 12 hours away. The Sheriff’s Posse will also be available to assist in evacuating livestock from the threatened areas.

         If evacuation is necessary, it will include closure of the Seiad Creek Road and possibly additional roads depending on fire behavior.  Also an evacuation center will be established at the Siskiyou Golden Fair Ground, 1172 Fairlane Road, Yreka, California.  The evacuation center will have the capability to house small and large animals as well.
