Monument extends into Klamath Basin

A document recently obtained from the DOI indicates the Obama
Administration is considering a flurry of new national monument
designations in the near future (document attached above).  The document
mentions designations and land acquisitions in 11 different western
states:  Utah, Montana, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon,
Washington, Colorado, Alaska, and Wyoming.  As many as 13 million acres
of land (possibly more) are at risk for potential designation.
Coincidentally, nearly every one of these proposed designations involve
areas with energy potential.  These designations are just one more
example of a renewed War on the West that would public limit access,
reduce domestic energy production, ignore basic property rights, and
impede job creation in Western states.

They are proposing to expand the Cascade-Siskiyou Monument in OR to
include the Klamath Basin/the Siskiyou-Crest Monument being promoted by
the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center. This roughly includes the area north

of the Klamath River from I-5 down to Somes Bar.

The Board of Supervisors has already passed a Resolution adamantly
against such a designation. However, it can be done any time administratively by
the White House without hearing or further process. I suggest people write President
Obama, Senators Boxer and Feinstein and Secretary of Interior Salazar to oppose
such a designation. Also, you might shoot an e-mail to our Governor and state
representatives Aanestad and Nielsen.
